Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on the Use of This software

1. What is the difference between Open and Decrypt?
Open: When an encrypted file or folder is Opened, it is decrypted temporarily. When the program detects that you are not using this file or folder any more, the file or folder will be automatically restored to the encrypted status.
Decrypt: Restore the encrypted file or folder to the unencrypted status.

2. How to encrypt a file or a folder?
In Windows Explorer, right-click a file or a folder to be encrypted, and select Encrypt in the pop-up menu. You can also click [Folder Encryption] or [File Encryption] in the main window of the program.

3. How to open or decrypt an encrypted file or folder?

Encrypted files: Double-click an encrypted file in Windows Explorer, enter the password in the window that pops up, and select Open or Decrypt. You can also click an encrypted record in the main window of the program to decrypt it.
Flash-Encrypted folders: Double-click a Flash-Encrypted folder in Windows Explorer, enter the password in the window that pops up, and select Open or Decrypt. You can also click an encrypted record in the main window of the program to decrypt it.
Hidden-Encrypted folders: Click a record in the list of encrypted folders in the main window of the program to decrypt it.

4. Why an administrator password is necessary?

It is set to prevent others from encrypting your data with this program maliciously out of your control.

5. Can I encrypt a folder in a removable disk?

Yes.

6. What will happen to the encrypted folders if the system is reinstalled or ghosted?

After the system is reinstalled or ghosted, the encrypted files in other partitions remain encrypted, and hold the original password. They can be decrypted after you reinstall this program. (To prevent any possible accidents, we suggest you to decrypt those encrypted folders before performing any special operations.)

7. Can those Flash-Encrypted folders be copied away by others?

No. The folder (in fact a file) left after a Flash Encryption is about 1 KB in size. The data of the encrypted folder itself is fixed in its own partition. So even if this 1 KB file is copied away by other people, your encrypted data is still safely kept. Therefore, a Flash-Encrypted folder cannot be moved. However, if you really want to move a folder, you are suggested to use the Portable Encryption function on the folder. Another way is to decrypt the folder before moving.

8. Can an encrypted folder or file be moved to another computer with a USB disk?

Folders and files encrypted by Portable Encryption can be moved to other computers, and even those where this program is not installed.

9. If this program is uninstalled or deleted by some other people, will my encrypted folder be decrypted?

No. Your folders will remain encrypted.

10. Will the encryption on the folders fail in safe mode?

No. It will not fail in safe mode, in MS-DOS mode or even in a dual system!

11. What if I forget the password?

Please fix the password firmly in your mind! If you forget the password for Flash Encryption and Hidden Encryption, there is a password restore function in the full version to help you. Encrypted data cannot be decrypted otherwise.

12. Can the encrypted folders or files be deleted?

Encrypted folders and files cannot be deleted, renamed or modified.

13. How to find a Hidden-Encrypted folder?

Select [Hidden-Encrypted Folders] in the list next to [Current Display] in the main window of Super Folder Encryptor.
